Dr. Amy Haraway was a beloved member of the AVES family who touched the hearts of so many people and animals during her time with us. Her warm smile and presence will be greatly missed but never forgotten.”
To honor her life and legacy, the Austin Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center is holding an open vigil on December 21st at 5:30 PM. Everyone is welcome to come and pay their respects, share their memories, and celebrate her life.
Amy Haraway Professional Life
Amy Haraway earned her veterinary degree from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. She then completed a one-year Emergency and Critical Care internship at DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital in Portland, Oregon. Her professional focus revolved around emergency medicine, trauma, and wound care. She subsequently assumed a role at Northwest Veterinary Specialists and Emergency in Portland, OR, until 2019 when she relocated to Austin to be closer to her family.
In Austin, she worked at the Austin Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center, where she continued to make a difference in the lives of animals and their owners. Her dedication to her work was evident in the countless lives she saved and the many animals she helped heal.

Outside of her work, Amy Haraway had many hobbies and interests. She loved spending time with her family, indulging in reading, cooking, and playing the piano and violin. When the rivers were deemed safe, she enjoyed taking her dog, Eli, on hikes.
